Microsoft Windows Certificate - An Overview

Certifications by Microsoft are probably the most coveted and are much popular in the IT job sector today. Microsoft Windows certificate trained professionals are in great demand today in the job market. This is one of the major reasons why Microsoft has announced many new Windows certification course tracks.

The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification is designed for those candidates who wish to gain expertise and develop their skills to administer environments found on the desktop OS and server. The certificate is available on two platforms, namely the Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003.

For the Windows 2000 track of the MCSA certification, a candidate must pass 3 core exams and 1 elective exam. The student must also have a prior experience of 6-12 months in administration of network and client operating systems.

For the Windows Server 2003 track of the MCSA certification, a candidate must pass 3 core exams and 1 elective exam. The student must also have a one year prior experience in administration of network and desktop operating systems and in a current network infrastructure.

The Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) certification is specifically designed for those candidates who intend to aspire for the skills that are necessary for the development of applications based on Windows. The course makes students proficient in the usage of Microsoft ASP .NET, Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and the development of XML Web services based solutions.

The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certificate is another Microsoft Windows certificate designed for those candidates who wish to gain expertise and develop their skills to administer environments found on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000 operating systems.

MCSE candidates now have to do two specialized courses, namely messaging and security, on both Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2003 Server. Such courses can prove extremely beneficial for those candidates who are already working on these operating systems in enhancing their skills.

The MCSE certification course is offered on two platforms, the Windows Server 2003 and the Windows 2000.

In the case of the former platform, the candidate must pass 6 core exams, out of which 4 are network related, 1 exam deals with the design of the operating system, and the balance 1 exam relates to client operating systems. The MCSE exams also include an elective exam.

The Windows Server 2000 platform requires candidates to pass 5 core exams, 4 of which are operating systems based and the balance 1 exam deals with the design of the operating system. It additionally has two elective exams as well.

Microsoft has also now introduced the Windows Server 2008 certification track, the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification, to replace the MCSE certification. These certifications are extremely different and are far advanced when compared with any of the past Windows certifications.

There are two MCITP tracks for the students to choose from. The Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator certification exam requires a candidate to pass 5 exams.

A Microsoft Windows certificate may have undergone many changes in its format, but still requires candidates to be competent and proficient in any Microsoft certification based job that they may opt for.
